Apple granted trademark on the design of its retail stores

Apple seems to be protecting the interior design of its stores with the same zeal as it does with its iPhone and iPad.Screen Shot 2013-01-31 at 11.38.21 AM

 The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted Apple the  trademark on the utilitarian design and layout of its retail outlets, according to the records.

The description of the trademarks contains “a clear glass storefront surrounded by a paneled facade” and as for the interiors, an “oblong table with stools set below video screens flush mounted on the back wall.”

The stores’ design was the brainchild company’s former CEO, the late Steve Jobs. In 2003, Apple patented the floating glass staircases that you see in many Apple stores.  according to the Patent and Trademark Office, The inventor of the patent is Steve Jobs himself.

Apple has over 250 retail stores in the United States, as well as several more in about a dozen countries.
