Yesterday, we reported the news regarding the announcement of a lawsuit that Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) planned to file against Apple this week. ACCC had accused Apple of misleading customers with false advertisement.
However, there is a good news for New iPad users in Australia.
Australians who feel they got misled by Apple due advertisement claiming support for 4G LTE by the new iPad in Australia can get their money back. A report in The Guardian carried this announcement from Apple. At the moment, the new iPad 4G supports only North American LTE networks. Only users in United States and Canada have this luxury.
However, Apple selling the new iPad with the 4G moniker in Europe and the rest of the world as well. This is confusing. The Australian consumer watch dog ACCC took action and it is seeking orders against Apple in Australia.
Apple had taken some short cuts here because there is no single chip that supports all LTE frequencies. Apple should have made different 4G iPad hardware for each region. However, they opted against that to save money, which they would have to lose anyway now when they shell it out give refund to Australian customers.
