It is official. Apple has sold Three million iPads in the opening weekend. The third generation iPad (usually known as New iPad or iPad 3) was released for sale last Friday.
Combining all units of the New iPad sold during Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the total number was three million.
“The new iPad is a blockbuster with three million sold–the strongest iPad launch yet.” — Philip Schiller, Apple’s Senior VP of Worldwide Marketing.
Minimum price for the New iPad was $499. That is $1.5 billion in sales on the lowest end. The iPad 2 sold one million units during its first weekend.
Once again news outlets churning out same news. It goes something like this: incremental upgrade, mild praise with very vocal opposition, followed by the utter decimation of previous sales records.
First, the success of iPhone 4S, then various court victories against competitors and now the New iPad, seems like Apple will remain a winner for a long time.
