Department Of Justice May Sue Apple Over E-Book Price Fixing

Department of Justice

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is investigating Apple and several book publishers over concerns of price-fixing in the e-book market.

These concerns have appeared to come from when Apple made deals with major publishers that effectively increased the price for all electronic booksellers. Amazon already had a deal in place where most the new releases were $9.99 and after Apple stepped and, prices went up considerably.

The suit from the DOJ could come very soon. Along with Apple, publishers Simon & Schuster Inc, HarperCollins Publishers Inc, Hachette Book Group, and Pearson and Macmillan are all part of the investigation and they all want to settle this collusion lawsuit. Apple is already preparing its defense. It remains to be seen how effective it will be.
