iOS 5 on iPhone 3GS, But How Well Does it Run?

Last time when Apple released iOS 4, there was some concern from iPhone 3G users who protest that iOS 4 will hamper their iPhone forcing them to take this drastic step of downgrading to iPhone OS 3.1.3.

Just two days back, Apple has released iOS 5 at WWDC and even though iPhone 3GS users got the good news that iOS 5 will be compatible with their iOS device, despite rumors last week that they will be left out, there were still some trepidation about couple of things.

iPhone 3GS

1. Will iOS 5 slow down iPhone 3GS due to its lower processors.

2. All features of iOS 5 be available for iPhone 3GS users?

  1. After ios5:
My 3GS now has all native apps (camera) crash 50% of the time.
It runs about 3x slower. Even typing is a pain. Browser lags. Camera takes 5-8 seconds to load (when it doesn’t crash.)

I’ve been told downgrading is nuts and not doable. Apple said ios5 would work on my 3GS. Now I have a paperweight.

  2. My 3GS ran quickly and smoothly before the “upgrade” to ios5. Now, it’s a donkey. It jumps out of apps, hangs and is slow. Wish I never upgraded.

  3. I have a 3GS and I recently did the iOS5 upgrade.
    1. I have NOT experienced any of the app slowdowns, crashes etc that others have reported, except that:

    2. In common with many iPhone users (including 4 and 4S), I AM having problems with slowness of iCloud-related syncing, which is seriously impacting usability of iCal, Mail etc.

    I don’t think iOS5 is the problem – I rather think it’s iCloud.
