For past three years, we have been hearing the rumor that Apple would “soon” release a so-called “iPad Mini.” However, over the last six months, the intensity of these rumors picked up pace inside the Apple supply chain.
Now the most credible source of all is talking about it.
Late Wednesday, 4 July 2012, Bloomberg reported a headline that many people could never imagine coming from the venerable news and media powerhouse.
The iPad mini is, indeed, coming. And it is coming this year. According to “two people with knowledge of the plans”, the smaller, cheaper (probably $199) iPad, will help keep Apple the king of the tablet market as competing heavy-hitters like Google and Microsoft are ready to launch lower-priced devices for emerging markets.
The new model will have a screen that’s 7 inches to 8 inches diagonally, less than the current 9.7-inch version, said the people, who asked not to be identified because Apple hasn’t made its plans public. The product, which Apple may announce by October, won’t have the high-definition screen featured on the iPad that was released in March, one of the people said.
It seems that October 2012, is going to be a juggernaut month for Apple. Many signs suggest that the 6th generation iPhone and the new iMac with Retina Display would be launched in October 2012. And if an iPad Mini also joins them, Apple’s 2012 holiday quarter might be the biggest earnings bonanza ever.
