iPhone 5 sets sales record in China

In a record of sorts, Apple has announced that it has sold over two million of its new iPhone 5 in China, within three days after its launch on December 14.Screen Shot 2012-12-20 at 6.42.44 PM

That makes it a staggering 2,000,000 devices in 72 hours, or about 666,666 a day, which is an incredible feat, to say the least. Although this number falls short of the 5,000,000 iPhone 5 devices that Apple sold during the first weekend launch in September, one can recall that this was a sum of the total sales in nine countries, including the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the UK.

“Customer response to iPhone 5 in China has been incredible, setting a new record with the best first weekend sales ever in China,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO.

“China is a very important market for us and customers there cannot wait to get their hands on Apple products.”

Apple has said that the iPhone 5 will be available in more than 100 countries by the end of December, making it the fastest iPhone rollout ever.
