A spec sheet leaked on Tuesday casts doubt on the online reports regarding the new 13” MacBook featuring a retina display.
The leaked document, pictured at the top of this page, lists the specs of the upcoming 13” MacBook Pro and for the most part they match what the rumor mill has been saying over the last few months. Specs do mention updated processors, Thunderbolt port, and two USB 3.0 ports. However, a few key differences from the rumors are to be noted. These differences include the display resolution, and physical dimensions.
The display resolution is the same 1280×800 pixels as the current 13” MacBook Pro. This fact is in contrast to claims that the updated 13” model would feature a high-resolution Retina Display. Also, there is no change in dimensions. Rumors of Apple introducing a redesigned MacBook Pro have been rampant, and many expect it to happen in near future. The unchanged dimensions mean the particular model mentioned would not be a part of that redesign.
Now, if the rumor is true, this information can point to a few different outcomes. One, Apple is not redesigning anything, nor it is updating the laptop displays, and thus, Apple is essentially giving everyone an incremental product refresh. Two, this is a spec sheet from a legacy item, and Apple is updating their MacBook Pro line with new 13” and 15” Retina Display enabled models lacking a physical media drive, and feature a redesigned chassis. Three, Apple is reserving the retina display for its MacBook Air, and higher end MacBook Pro models.
