Negative Publicity Received By The New iPad
Today, every person who is fascinated with Apple products wants to own a New iPad because of all the hype, it is the talk of the town despite all the negative publicity that it is receiving.
The Third Generation iPad (also known as new iPad or iPad 3) is a new tablet computer launched by Apple Inc. The new iPad has more than 18 variations including combination of black and white glass panels, and different storage capacities of 16, 32 and 64GB.
The hype of the New iPad also contributed to rapid response to Pre-orders for the latest tablet from Apple.
The New iPad also consists of pretty good connectivity options such as Wi-fi only, Wi-fi+4G on Verizon, Wi-fi + 4G on AT&T and many others. Both of these will work on GSM carriers around the world rather would not have LTE on those other carriers. The retina display of the new iPad is four times the retina display of iPad 2. It consists of an amazing 5 megapixels camera which has the capability of 1080p video recording. All features of the New iPad a lot.
The new iPad was launched for sales in USA, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Puerto Rico, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia on 16 March 2012. Apple updated the software for new iPad. After the launch of the new iPad, apple discounted the price of iPad 2, and declares that other models of iPad will also see a $100 drop price.
On 23 March 2012, the new iPad was launched for sales in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Macau, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.
During the marketing and promotions of the new iPad, the Apple Inc. announced that it was compatible with 4G. Apple Inc named the new iPad as “iPad WiFi + 4G” in its advertisements. However it had 4G compatibility only in U.S.A and Canada. Other countries such as Australia, the new iPa was limited for 3G data speed only. Apple Inc. added a warning in its website to remove the confusion regarding the 4G. Apple is facing a lawsuit in Australia because of misleading advertisement. There are speculation that very soon consumer organization of many other European countries might join the chorus and sue Apple in their respective countries. In Australia Apple is offering refund to costumers who purchased the new iPad. This move has been described as a damage control move.
However, this warning could not absolve Apple of the blame of creating a misleading advertisement because every consumer would not be seen the website. Usually a consumer makes his decision of buying or not buying a product after seeing an advertisement of the same product. And an advertisement is everywhere. Obviously the absence of features mentioned in the advertisement, in the real product would make the consumer feel cheated.
The beginning of sales of the new iPad was just excellent. It broke all the records for the sales, as the Fifth Avenue Apple Store located in New York, sold 13,000 iPads in its first 12 hours. it was a tremendous sales. The negative publicity received by the new iPad was mainly for its three of the major problems. The overheating problem was one of them. The temperature of the new iPad reached to 116 degree fahrenheit while running the processor, which was 12 degrees hotter than the iPad 2 under the identical testing conditions. Questioning the Apple Inc. it responded that the new iPad had a stunning retina display and it supported for a 4G LTE and 10 hours of battery life all while operating well within their thermal specifications.
Another big problem contributing to the negative publicity of the new iPad is the battery charging problem. It is a major problem faced by the consumers. When the iPad is getting charged, the indicator shows 100% charged but actually it is not such, it gets 100% charged approximately after two hours of indication. At the moment, this problem is being faced by some new iPads because there are some users of new iPad denied this problem in their iPad.The user thinks that the iPad is full charged and he/she can carry it anywhere but actually its not and the costumer has to face problems regarding this situation.Apple Inc. says that the consumer can directly contact the Apple care, as they have sold 3 million new iPad.
Apple has offered a refund to the Australian iPad 4G costumers. This refunding should not only be done in Australia but in all regions where the new iPad does not have Wi-fi 4G compatibility and Apple Inc. should make the new iPad 4G compatible in all the regions. As the charging problem has been faced by only some costumers, such costumers should be compensated by replacement of batteries. Batteries with defect should be analyzed and the cause of defect should be found out so that other users do not have to face a similar kind of problem. The technology department of Apple Inc. should take the overheating problem seriously and address it.
