Phone Fight Review: The Gloves are off!
Just when you wonder if there’s really any new ground left to cover in mobile games, a game like Phone Fight comes along and snaps you out of your reviere. Based on an outlandish premise, this game is a lot more fun than you might expect at first glance.
Today we use our Smartphones to take pictures, to listen to music, and even as virtual wallets. MOB IN LIFE takes this concept one step further with Phone Fight, turning your mobile into a trained pet (Called a Mobi) which you can send off to do battle with other iOS enabled devices at your whim. You are also provided with a story mode where your phone battles a bunch of ‘evil’ viruses. Your phone, however, is pretty moody, and you have to keep pampering it by feeding it cupcakes and complementing it (virtually, of course).
When it comes exchanging blows with your opponent, there’s nothing that you have to do, as the process is virtually automated. Though this makes sense since the purpose of the game is to prepare your phone for the fight and then let go, it would have been more fun if there was more user user involvement in the fights. Your role in the fights is reduced to collecting coins that pour out of your opponents when they are hit.
Coins are in-game currency that you can use to buy cupcakes and improved weapons. You can equip your Mobi with up to four weapons at a time. You can also buy more coins via in-app purchases, as in the case of most Freemium games.
Whether you want to settle which one of your friends will be the one to pick up the bar tab, or you just want to flaunt your virtual training skills by defeating someone else’s Mobi, Phone Fight is a great app to have. This type of game isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, but since it’s free, I’d recommend everyone to at least give it a shot.
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later.
