OS X may supports more applications every day. However, there are still some softwares out there that can only run on Windows.
Such softwares makes and application called Wine useful. Wine is a free application and it would allow you to run many Windows applications on Mac OS X. It may not be flawless, and it does not support all applications. However, it supports many of them and it can be helpful if there is a certain piece of Windows software that you really need to run on your Mac.
