IEEE has made known that it has launched the IEEE 802.22TM standard. IEEE 802.22 will offer broadband access to large regional areas around the globe and carry reliable and high-speed communication to under-served and un-served people.
The new standard for Wireless Regional Area Networks (WRANs) obtain benefit of the favorable transmission likes of VHF and UHT bands to offer broadband wireless access covering a large area up to the range of 100 Km i.e. from the transmitter. It is known that a single WRAN will offer a speed of 22Mbps per channel. The channel will not cause interference with reception of TV broadcast stations through using so-called white spaces between occupied channels.
