The untethered jailbreak for the original iPad, iPhone 4, iPod touch 4, and older models running iOS 5.0.1 is here. At the moment, this jailbreak does not work with newer, Apple A5 chipset-powered devices like iPhone 4S or iPad 2. However, if your device is an older version, this tutorial can be helpful for you.
The devices that this procedure supports are iPhone 4 (GSM and CDMA), iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch (4th Generation) and iPad (Original model).
Required items for Procedure:
1. A device on which this procedure is supported. Not like iPhone 4S or iPad.
2. A Mac or a PC. (We assume that you are using a Mac.)
3. RedSn0w 0.9.10b1 (make sure it supports your Mac or Windows.).
Untether via RedSn0w:
If you want to use RedSn0w to untether, you need to run the RedSn0w 0.9.10b1 above over your existing jailbreak. When prompted what you want to do, just uncheck Install Cydia since it is already installed in your iDevice. Let RedSn0w do the work and you should be untethered when it completes.
Jailbreaking Your Device:
STEP 1 – Launch RedSn0w.
STEP 2 – This version and other newer versions of RedSn0w can automatically detect what version of iOS is running on your Mac. You would not need to manually browse to a firmware file this time. Just click Jailbreak and follow the prompts that appear on your screen.
STEP 3 – RedSn0w will prompt you to only continue when your device is powered off. If your device is on, turn the power off while it is connected to the computer.
STEP 4 – After the third step, you will be guided through putting your device into DFU mode. Follow the steps that appear on the screen. RedSn0w will take care of the rest.
STEP 5 – After RedSn0w finishes the procedure, you are done.
